As time goes by we have to adapt how this place is run, in general we have no real need for rules or regulations on AOC/AS and for that we are very very grateful to everyone: this is down to the great community spirit that all the members have for the club and for one another.
Sadly though this does not always apply, and due to this, it has meant we have had to review the rules on the forum. To be honest the majority of the new rules are just old ones revised, and expanded so that we get in place a structure that will help us get prepare for where we would like to see AOC moving towards in the future. These revisions are mostly irrelevant to the people that just want to be a part of the community. However there is one new rule that will effect all though and that is as follows:
No links/adverts for Non-VBOA clubs and/or forums are to be permitted within avatars and signatures. However members can request to have clubs/forums added to the AOC link page. Clubs within the VBOA can be found here links page
Commercial Business’s will continue to be allowed in signatures
Constant spamming of other club and sites will not be tolerated and will only remain if directly relevant to the thread topic. IE, it will be permissible to post a direct link to a thread on another site, providing that this link will aid the topic of the thread. However links that just say "the answer is at www.otherwebsite.com " will be considered as spam, and thus not be allowed.
We reserve the right to remove any links at any time, without warning.
The above will be incorporated into the new rules and implemented as of January 31st.
Now we fully understand that some members will not be happy with the new rule, so we thought that...
a, we could have a discussion between us all on the subject (it is your club after all) and…
b, tell you why this new ruling has come about.
For the last 12-18 months we have had frequent PM's and Emails from concerned members who have received communication (via PM and email) from other members informing them of other clubs that are in their words “better than here” or “would be more beneficial to them”. We would like to thank those members that have informed us of these types of communication and to apologise that our systems have been abused in this manner. This soliciting has also openly taken place at AOC regional meets and at national shows and events.
We all know that starting up a free forum takes more or less 30mins to do, we also know that the more forums that start up the more diluted the information becomes, and the more the Vauxhall community fragments.
We are not in any way against anyone starting up a new forum: for all we know they could be the largest Vauxhall/Astra/model specific club in the world this time next year!!! However we do not appreciate any of our valued members being hounded or pressurised into signing up using our contact methods. In our opinion it’s rude, disrespectful and underhand.
So in light of this we have decided that only VBOA affiliated clubs will be able to have a web link in member’s signatures and avatars. Any other forums/clubs that want to have a presence on AOC/AS are more than welcome to have a link added to our links page (it would be nice to get one back as well!). We have already amassed as many links as we are aware of and put them on the links page, as a resource. But if we’ve missed anyone, please accept our apologies, and feel free to contact any of the Club team if you want one including.
We hope that you understand that we are trying to protect this community, the club, the information within it and the Vauxhall community as a whole. We are the largest all Astra forum within the UK and we would like to continue to grow in the future.
Furthermore, as a VBOA member we are committed to helping the association prosper and grow, and so will gladly offer realistic advice to any other club seeking to apply for membership.
We hope you understand our thoughts and actions on this subject, but as always we are fully open to your thoughts as well.
Thanks for reading
The AOC Team
