iirc you need to get it serviced at Vauxhall to retain the manufacturers warranty.

Don't believe that is correct Sten.

You can take it to any garage and get it serviced but you will not be able to extend your warranty with Vauxhall past the obligatory 3 years.

Ah, maybe that's what I'm thinking of.

you can keep your warranty by getting the car serviced at a VAT registered garage and using genuine vauxhall parts

Techincally the car can be serviced by any VAT registered garage so long as they use approved parts to keep the warranty. This only changes if your vehicle was registered before the reduction of AA cover from 3 to 1 years, where if you dont have it serviced at a Vauxhall approved service centre you will loose the rest of the AA cover.
However. 9-times out of 10 after the vehicle is out of manufacturers warranty (i.e. years 4 & 5), should a mechanical failure occur Vauxhall will general contribute towards the repair if the car has been serviced at a Vauxhall dealer, if its not then they wont contribute.

Yeah well the guy told me the garage was a VAT registered garage and he can use vauxhall parts if he wanted me to, so it should be ok then?

My advice Sarah would be to get a quote for labour alone then purchase the parts yourself from Vauxhall.

Once fitted you'll never know if he has put on genuine parts or just copy (pattern) parts and charged you the Vauxhall price. That is of course unless your sure of the garage.

Depends on how many miles its done but I'm guessing it'll be its first service (does state in the service booklet) but...
    Oil
    Oil filter x1
    Air filter x1
    Pollen Filter x1
    Spark plugs x4
    Sump plug rubber seal x1

Just walk into Vauxhalls parts dept tell them your coming up for your xxxx mile service can I have the parts. They will take your reg number from you and sort it all out. Then the hard bit ... paying for it
