Question Anyone got Traffic Master Smartnav?

The car I've put a deposit on has. Seems it costs £500 to install and £10 a month. It is voice navigation, camera alert, advise, tracker... but consists of one button which connects you to an operator who can also help in emergancies or breakdowns.

Anyone got this? How do I remove it with TM thinking I'm steeling the car? Can I leave it in place, but let the subscription lapse? If I did this, would they still be able to track the car if it were stolen?

Any help would be great. Thanks.

    Mike

We used to have it in all the company cars at work... turned out to be pants and expensive! After the first year we ripped them out and just had some TomTom's instead which were far better.
The button could also be used to connect to an operator to get you round a traffic blackspot. But the navigation i had trying to take me the wrong way down the M4 and telling me to do a U-turn on the M1!

You can get them to take it out (properly) for £75 or something extortionate. The tracking shouldn't be active on your car as long as you're not paying the subscription though..

I gave them a call. As a new owner I'll get one month free as an evaluation. If I do not subscribe, the system will not bother me and I can leave it in. If the car is stolen, I have to pay 2 years subscription (currently £240) for them to tell me where it is. If they do not find it, I only pay £50. Sounds like a good idea to leave it in. Unlikely it will be stolen, but £240 to get it back would be good.

I fit them at work, you have 2 options for the subscription. One being the pay up front as you say or you can have pay as you go so pay as and when you use it. The basic ones just use a button, you have got a screen option to

Whoever had it fitted paid for the unit so there's no reason for you to keep paying and if wanted you can take it out. There's only a mic, speaker hidden under the dash, a round aerial on the windscreen, control box, power/ earth and igniton and obviously a button. Took me no more than 30 minutes to remove one today

I may as well leave it in but move the button to somewhere inaccesable/unviewable. At the moment it is fitted in place of the 12v socket - nice and tidy, but I want a 12v socket tbh.

The later ones had a plug on the switch wire,so if yours is the later one you will be able to disconnect it and reposition it somewhere to your liking

I have a TomTom 720 Traffic, so pretty sorted for navigation.

Enigma - if I start playing with the wiring, will it phone them up and report that it is being tampered with?
