    Question Mountain Bike

I'm after one. Apparently the Guiness barrel look is soooo yesterday so I need help finding a bike.

I'm looking at Halfords at the mo with their £90 jobbie. Any good? Anywhere else I should be looking for a cheap bike. I want to steer clear of ebay if possible.

    Thoughts?

jam, i've learnt my lesson from halfords bikes, i bought an "apollo" a couple of years back for around £90

it looks good, the brakes are shite, and its heavy as **** - basically i'm not too clued up on bikes, but i know you probably shouldnt go for a halfords one mate

I've got a Giant XTC mountain bike that i'm trying to get rid of. It needs new back tire and a new skewer on the front wheel. but you can have it if you fancy spending £300!! BARGAIN!! It's an £800-1000 bike.

Edit: It's being stored at my dads house in Telford at the minute. So not that far from you jam.

I know I'm not going to get much for £90 but it'll rarely get used after this year for various reasons so paying £300 is just too much for less than 12 months of abuse.

    Thanks for your help guys

I would do ebay or bargin pages with that sort of cash to be honest Jam It depends what you want the bike for really. If its just general road/path use then you should be able to pick something up for that sort of money. However if you want to do tricky technical hard rides then you should buy something that will not lte you down, and more importantly keep you safe when the bike is under pressure.

If you need any help give us a shout

Well all I'm going to use it for is getting rid of this guiness barrel I have. Once I return back to he-man status it'll be in the shed and probably not used again

    Thats not a trials bike

I'd avoid halford like the plague, not only are the bikes shit, the staff are idiots in most cases.

Go to your local bike shop and you can sometimes pick up last year models (of which there should be a few kicking about this time of year) pretty cheap. If you're only doing a few road miles then the specs not really important, but whatever you do don't by some steel framed SUPER MEGA FULL SUSPENSION PRO DOWNHILL BIKE. Get a hardtail, ali if possible and if you can get one with V brakes the chances are the rest of the spec will be slightly better, and you can buy better V brake pads anyway, and cheap discs will be no better than V's.
