righto, as you may have gathered I've been looking at mk3's for the last week or so, to replace the mk4 estate (which I will be breaking soon).
I would prefer a 1.8 16v GSi/Sport, however finding one in the right condition and at the right price is proving difficult, I've missed out on 3 now where they've all sold either the day before or on the day I made contact
so my search has narrowed down to two cars, both of which are 1.6 16v rather than the 1.8s. I'm not overly worried by the slight difference in performance, because going from the 'state it will feel quicker anyway
I've now got a choice between two cars as I said before, but they're both a little way away from me to give the once over so I was wondering what the general consensus was on which to go for. here's a brief over view on each, and I would appreciate anyones thoughts on which to go for as soon as possible if you could

Car #1 - located approx 3.5hrs away from me
1995 1.6 16v 5dr Sport
loads of service history/receipts/old mots etc
full MOT (done especially for sale if I want it) but no tax.
cambelt/rollers/water pump done ~52k
no rust on rear arches
gsi smoothed grill (ph1 if I'm not mistaken?)
mk4 side repeaters
piper cat back exhaust
short shift kit
plus its got a long "history" thread on mk3oc showing the cars transformation and subsequent putting back to standard (so I know its been looked after). only bad point really (besides the chavvy aerial) is a little rust on the drivers door and a spot on the sill just below, but thats nothing that can't be sorted with a new door and a little TLC.

fSH up to 96k & all MOTs etc. has had a service recently but not stamped as DIY job.
MOT august '08, 6 mths Tax just put on.
15" alloys (which would definately be changed )
lowered an unspecified amount (looks approx 30-40mm to me from pics)
Cambelt/Rollers/Water Pump needs doing (he has said his dad will do the cambelt while I wait if I want to, but I'd rather get the lot done at once I think)
so what do you think? I did initially prefer the red one because it would save me doing a couple of mods (short shift/exhaust) and I could sell the GSi grill and headlights for ph2 grill & lights, but now thinking some more I'm edging a little towards the yellow one, mainly because the bloke has been more forthcoming with info when I've asked, he's also keen for a quick sale as he's recently moved and this is sat on the road unisured/untaxed as he has nowhere for it (using this info I've knocked down by 33% on the price so far and I'm optimistic I'll get him down some more! ) its just the extra trek to get it as well that discourages me.
what do we all reckon?
