I've been having a intermittent problem with my Astras heater - the recirculation flap has a mind of its own.
Anyway, last night it suddenly started working on the was home from work.
So, I get home and think it only a 10 minute job to undo the 6 screws holding the glovebox in and have a look to see what going on.
Its now 8.30pm and its lashing down.
I get my torx bits out, remove the glovebox and inspect the flap - its right up under the windscreen on the passenger side. To see whether the flaps moving or not I need to stick my finger through a plastic grill.
...you guessed it!
My finger gets stuck in the grill - aaaaaaaaahhhhh!!!
Shit, I thought!
No problem though, I'll cut the plastic with the knife on my multi-tool, er, in the glovebox in the back of the car, that I now can't reach - DOH!!!!!!
So, I'm half hanging out of the car, on my knees, with my left ring finger stuck behind the dash!
Luckily I left the car on the drive at the front of the house (I was going to to it in the garage), and proceeded to reach under the car in hope of finding stones to lob at the living room window in hope of attracting the wifes attention.
After 10 minutes of trying I eventually hit the window - it was some distance away!
She appears, spends some time finding a suitable rain coat and footwear, and comes out!!
She gets me the knife and I manage to cut, via 3 layers of skin, through the plastic and free the now bloody, swollen finger.
And the flaps still not working properly!!!
What an idiot eh!!
... and this had taken me longer than usual to type due to afore mentioned poorly digit!
