    2.2 Vauxhall Astra Coupe's

What BHP are these as standard? Are they nice to drive, better or worse than the 2.0Turbo?

Less powerful than the turbo with just shy of 150bhp but no turbo problems and they are chain driven. Nice engines, smooth and torquey.

as Ffoeg said its the newer vvti engine that has 140bhp. i had a 2.2 sri before the gsi and loved the car. however the 2.0ltr turbo is a different prospect all together. bags more torque as expected and much much easier to drive as i live in the pennines so the hills are seen off easier, not up and down gears as much. 2.2 is 147ps which is about the 144bhp mark. if you go for the 2.2 make sure its had regular oil changes as the timing chains are prone to snapping as the oil jet can become blocked. this was one of the factors in me changing to the gsi as it has a belt instead of chain. do a search on the 2.2 chain and have a read and see what you think before buying! all the best!

As said above make sure the field remedy for the 2.2 has been carried out The nut that the oil flows through to lubricate the chain gets blocked because the hole is too small the remedy was a nut with a bigger hole
