    Astra 1.7 Ctdi Uneconomical

I Recently Got A 1.7 100 Break Sri Astra, But Its Not Running As Economical As It Should! Most 1.9's Average At Least 50 To The Gallon, Im Lucky If I Get 40 And Its Just Had A Full Vauxhall Service About 3 Weeks Ago!! Is There Something I Can Do? Also, Is There A Way Of Altering The Boost On The Turbo???

You should definately be getting more than 50 to the gallon, assuming you do motorway miles. If you do any town driving at all, your economy will plummet.

Over the holidays I was doing my normal route to and from work, and getting 55mpg, where I normally get 45mpg. Difference was I wasn't spending half an hour stuck in traffic each way.

You could try one of the DTUK Green tuning boxes, they're supposed to aid fuel economy.

i've got the same spec engine and i completely know where you're coming from. the car is terrible for consumption and has been for as long as i've had the car. i keep to below 2000 rpm most of the time to try and aid the figures but even then i still get less than 50.

Really if you're concerned about fuel milage, you should have gone for the 1.3CDTi. With the 6-speed box it gives better economy.

The 1.7CDTi is pretty pointless - it's only marginally more powerful than the 1.3CDTi with worse economy, and gives the same fuel economy as the 1.9CDTi with 50% less power.

The sooner they get rid of the 1.7 the better IMHO.

I'm surprised by your figures, how heavy are you on the 'loud' pedal? driving style makes up such a big part of decent fuel economy, if your style of driving is rapid acceleration and harsh breaking, then your figures won't be anywherenear the same as the old Doris next door in her identical car.

agree entirely with ZS on the pointlessness of the 1.7 engine, its on a par with the fact they put the 1.6 8v petrol motor with near-enough no power in the mk4 estate which weighed over a tonne...

I recently joined astraownersnetwork.co.uk and was reading an interesting article on 1.7 cdti mpg.

People are stating that about keeping in 4th for longer rather than going into 5th improves mpg.
I.e 70mph in 4th gear gets there mpg to about 50mph. If they put it into 5th at 70mph it drops to 40mpg which seems to be the problem people are having.

As for me, i am getting reguarly 40-45mpg.
Thinking about getting a CRD2 system soon
