need help with 01 1.8 coupe astra
emissions light is on ,has all the symptoms of a problem with the egr valve ,but I was told by that my Engine model Z18XE has no egr valve ,is this true ? and if its not can anyone tell me how to blank it off ? I drove 2 miles with the car barely able to get past 3000 revs but after that it drove fine ,stuttered in idle still when I got back home. Its booked in for a service next week and the garage quoted me €159 for a new valve if thats the problem !!
they tell u it doesnt have an EGR yet they give u a quote for a replacement one!
YES you're right, the Z18XE does not have an EGR - in its place is a blanking plate so the apperture is already blanked off.
Have u actually had the car hooked upto a diagnostics machine to have the fault codes read.
You really need the codes read to determine exactly what the fault is.
Could be a variety of issues but pointless us tellin u what it might or might not be.
Personally Id be having it checked out on a diagnostic machine & servicing it myself - disconnecting the battery fror about 45mins to reset the ECU and clear any fault codes is also an option but youd be better off hookin it up for a test.
thanks ,bringing it in next Wednesday, so will see then.must get diagnostic program
You may struggle to get software to read codes, or it will cost a fair old wedge to buy a set-up for use with a lap-top! I'd suggest purchasing a fault code reader. I've got one and it reads more than just Vaux ECU's! I purchased mine from LMF Vauxhall (01858 433 599). Good bit of kit!
