    help with thermostat

    hi everyone, my thermostat has packed up and i know they are easy to replace as i have done a fair few of them before but wot i wanted to know was do the vaux have the draining plug at the bottom of the radiator like the fords do and wot is roughly the right mix for the anti freeze when filling back up, cheers

    yes the drain plug is at the bottom (drivers side iirc) - 50/50 mix as per most other cars - get a gallon of the red longlife stuff from vauxhall - i pay about £8 cant recall if its premixed or not lol

    cheers and is it only the one gasket needed like normal?

    the gasket should come with the stat

    the PN for ur Z18XE is 24456401 (and thats for the thermostat housing and gasket)

    Heres an identical part to the Vxl one with identical warranty and about a tenner cheaper....

    correct me if im wrong but you mention the thermostat housing, are they all one complete lot now then cos the one's i did you just changed the thermostat and put they old housing back on.

    Most of the modern engines used by Vxl have the thermostat built into the water outlet and replacing the entire unit is the only way of changing the stat.

    Check the link above to see what the part looks like.

    This way its even easier and less mess - remove the hose, a few bolts and ur sorted.
