    trading in the golf

we are part ex'ing the golf for the new car and I am wondering what dealers expect?

Obviously it will be clean inside and out, with all the history.

I am concerned about the condition of the car though, as it was modified I have taken the wheels off, spoiler off and rear lights off. Whats left is the badgeless grill (can not take this off due to the bonnet mod), colour coded parts, springs and shocks (no point taking them off) and the wiring is all in for the amps etc (but now hidden).

The problem I have is there are some bad chips in the paint work, the front and rear valances look very tired. However the car is a V reg and has covered 101k miles, so where do you draw the line in tidying it up? There are no dents in the car at all, and it looks good for its age IMHO. I am considering putting standard black valances on it though to make it look a bit tidier.....or as its only going to go to auction is it worth the money and the time?

    any thoughts would be great

i would change the valances on the car if the paint is bad on them. it will make the car look more standard, which will normally help the value of the car.

as for the chips, i would just do a cheap cover up. some touch up paint, and careful flatting should cover up the smaller ones. no point in going to a bodyshop as they will start respraying whole panels and it will run into the hundreds.

I wouldn't worry about it - on a V they'll give you bottom book value and ship it off to an auction. Franchise dealers rarely sell cars that are 5 years old or more.

thats my thoughts on it as well - its only going to get us £1500-£2000 max. Its tidy enough for the age and millage, they may do ok out of it on auction if someone there knows what they are looking for, but I will never get that across in the sale.

well I always thought that - but recently I went with my dad to get a new audi. He traded in a BMW 523 P reg.

They drove it before they gave him a price, we did the deal left a desposit. After goign back 2 weeks latter with the money, they test drove it again - just to make sure nothign had happened to it!

They gace him £2k for the BMW
