    Fluctuating Idle & Searching

    Hi guys
I really need some help here please.I fitted a cowley branch on my astra G 1.6 16v and now the car has a splutter wen it idles but when I rev it a little the splutter goes away.Could it be that the idle control unit is dirty by some freaky reason just after I installed the branch?
Also the car looses power between 4000 & 5000rpm but increases after 5000rpm.Is there anything I can look at before taking it to a mech????

If you can, I'd interogate the Tech 2 codes. It maybe showing something?!

Have you checked that you have tightened everything up sufficiently and that all plugs are fully in?

I take it that the Engine Managment system warning light doesn't come on?
    Kind regards,

    Russ

Im not sure what tech 2 codes are but ive done a diagnostic on the car and an exhaust recycle gas fault comes up.Ive tried swapping the wires around but no joy.the weird thing is that it stopped fluctuating for a while but started again a few days ago.You right the engine management light does not come on.

Russ Ive noticed that you have derestricted your airbox.Has there been any negative results with that? I wanna do that to my car aswell but ive been told it has pro's and cons to it and that I should just fit a K&N flat filter instead.

Juice i have just de restricted my air filter box with no problems and fitted a K and N panel filter and feel the car has more response when accelarating and it seems to have a bit more punchy betwen 3000 and 5000 rpm not a lot but noticeable when you do it after runnin standard for a while

    Right, got some info.

How old is your Astra? If after 2001 model year, the EGR valve can be programmed out of the system, but if before, it will need a new EGR valve.

In response to your question regarding de-restriction of the air-box; it is easy to do and with an aftermarket air filter panel, you do get a noticable effect. It's not massive, but the car does feel more 'torquey' between 2500 and 4000rpm. In relation to negative response, not seen any yet! To assist the de-restriction, I suggest fitting a Veccy C in-take as well. They are a bit bigger, which in theory, give you better flow.

    Happy New Year!!
    Kind regards,

    Russ

Thanks guys for the info. The car is a 2002 model russ.Ive noticed another prob now guys, the car seems to lose power between 4000 & 5000 rpm then accelerates again. Its jus 4 a split sec though.Im thinking of maybe jus taking the branch manifold of & going standard again.Ive deristricted the airbox but that dint help my problem, the car is a bit quicker tho of the line.

    Gents,

The way that the engine management system works on the Z18XE means that you won't feel the benefit of any modifications (not full potential anyway) without a re-map. It's a pain in the ass, I know, but it is unfortunately the way that the sensor arrangement works!

I wish I had the software and the knowledge myself to do it, but at the moment, I don't. Pants!!

Could either of you post some pics of the cowley branch arrangement? I've seen one and I'm intrigued.

    Cheers!
    Kind regards,

    Russ
