Do i need to use the new crossovers?

I am planning on changing my front door speakers to components. As I already have tweeters, surely there should be some sort of built in crossover. Will i need to use the new crossovers supplied with the components or can i simply just swap the old speakers & tweeters with the new ones?

...I will be amping the components. Where/What is the best way to connect the speaker wires from the amp to the components. (in my old car, i ran the RCAs to the amp, then the speaker wires from the amp to the original front speaker wires in the loom behind the headunit - obviously cutting the old connection from the headunit to the speakers...sorry if my wording is complicating )

you will need to use the crossovers as the filter on the original setup is just a capacitor conected to the tweeter so when you pull the tweeters out you loose your crossover

oh right, ok. Where would you recommend to connect and mount the crossovers - before the wiring reaches the door or in the door itself?

As above the easy place to mount them is inside the door between the plastic membrain and the door panel it's self. Once the door panels off you will see a large lump of polystarine (sp) where you arm rests which you can remove to give you space. Then you just run the wiring from the orgional main speaker to the input of the crossover and take the wiring from that to the new woofer and tweeter

Here's mine, wired up as Autosparks suggests above. All the cables were taped up to stop them rattling behind the door. The crossover site nicely behind the door handle.

Pecky, how have you found the fusion setup? I'm not after anything mega loud just looking for a bit of clarity over the standard speakers when turned up (and amped).

I got the Fusions cheap off ebay from a guy who worked on a team sponsored by them. I just wanted something which sounded better. They certainly sound better than the standard speakers. Mine isn't amped and just runs off my HU.

I did have a problem with one speaker, where the rear of the cone rusted which made a scratching noise when in use, this was caused by some water which had got into my door. I've since WD40'd it all over with nothing to loose and it works as new again.

Can't really comment if they are better or worse than xyz make because these are the only ones I have had.

another thing, did you need to use spacers to fit the components? I want a set that will be a straight fit preferably...

Spacers will always be needed but they are a simple fit really.
