    Help & Advice Needed

    Hi

    Im after some advice please.
My boyfriend bought me a ring for my 21st birthday in August this year. We took out the warranty insurance thing for £15.
It broke, the solder come away from one part of the ring. So i took it back. It came back from the repairers saying it wasnt repairable so they told me i could do a straight swap got a new ring.
Went to pick the ring up today, the lady told me i would need to pay a new £15 for insurance if i wanted this one to be covered as the old one is no void. I said as its not even a year old surley this should be done under the gurantee and not the insurance warranty.
She told me its not a manufacture fault its customer damage so the gurantee doesnt cover it.
Surley its not a very good ring if its broke within 4 months, so in that case wouldnt it be manufacture fault?

    Whatare your views.

    Thanks, Sarah

Because it broke in 4months doesnt necessaarily mean that its been poorly made, it would really depend on why it was deemed to hve broke i.e. if its been hashed & bashed or if it has indeed been a manufacturing fault.
I would recommend reading through your warranty to find out what happens if the ring has to be replaced i.e. does the warranty only cover one replacement or does it cover a set period of time regardless of the claim or claim types that are being made.
As you dont have the old ring you will struggle to argue the case that it broke due to a manufacturing fault.

The ring is at the shop, they still have it there.

My boyfriend is going to go tonight and cause abit of a argument and ask for the old ring back to get it looked at.

Exactly what i was thinking...but i can see why she would want to argue it.

If you are unhappy with the stores answer then ask for the regional offices contact information and kick up a stink at that level....but all the heartache isnt really worth £15 IMO.

That seems a bit strange that they want to charge you £15.

I took out insurance from the shop when I bought my watch for 1 year.

When the face was badly scraped by accident, the whole casing plus strap were replaced under the policy. This was over £250 worth of work basically caused by me being a silly bugger, but didnt cost me anything.

I would therefore agree that its worth reading the small print before embarking on an argument.

My missus used to work in a (main highstreet) jewlers and unfortunatly thats the way they did things also.

You take out the insurance (company called Signet I believe), if you use the insurance you need to take it out again.

If the solder broke, I assume you mean claw holding in the stone? then that probaby been put down to you catching it on something... hence the insurace claim and not a warrenty claim.

You will be very lucky if you manage to argue your way out of it IMO.

Also be carfull with thinking it will be an easier agrument because of the busy time of year, alot of the staff will be Temps (and not abe to help you anyway) and the remainder of staff may not have any time for you as they are just interested in hitting there sales targets. Just the way things go I'm afraid.

Also arguing will only put backs up, it does me.

Last thing i want is someone arguing over company policy, whilst being polite i wont do anything.

Then when they go in the back out of earshot and slag them off to other staff.

Then again the manger could be a pussy and cave in, you gets your choice.

It could be that you have to take out a new policy on the new ring?
