What "standard" of jobs will earn £20k+ in your area?

^^ as per title really, what sort of level or expertise do you need to earn £20k+ pa in your area? On my continued job hunt, I've been looking at certain jobs, and thinking they're underpaid for what the work is involved... Now this is "normal" you may say, but if I told you a manager of a fitness centre with near on 2000 member would only expect to earn £15k pa, you'd see what I mean then? Hell I could earn £15k pa working at Tesco doing nights in the warehouse...

So what standards of job do you need to have to earn £20k+ where you live? do you need to be middle management, or just A N Other within a certain field? And would you say £20k was a respectable salary around your area, or do people by-and-large bring home much more/less than that..?

I'm an EO1 in the Civil Service, and I'm getting a little more than that before allowances, etc. EO1 is junior management.

I'm on more than that as an engineer, and wouldn't really say its that respectable TBH. A bloke at work, his daughter has just started as a trainee for a bank, and is on near enough 20k, not sure what shes doing, but only a trainee!

After tax I take home £22.5k and easily another 3k overtime. For the area its not a bad wage but if I lived in London I could get double that easily..

It really depends on your lifestyle and what you want from a job. £20k a year doesn't buy much in the way of property given the current house prices.

In my experience £18-20k is about right for low level management and graduate jobs about here. That's what I would hope to start from when I finish college next year.

Whatever i tell you it is

No seriously, its quite specialist as its for the medical industry. We deal with the PACS systems and the associated modalities and networking. Its simple once you know how - difficult to get into though

We pay roughly 10% higher than average around here due to the nature of the work.

You get bonuses on top - performance related to individuals + company performance bonus when you are at my level or above , and expense/car account when required to visit sites etc
