    new car thoughts

I'm just wanting the unbiased opinion of the AS folk on which of two car suggestions is most preferable

I've been planning on getting an M3 for ages now, but have recently discovered a big amount of modding potential in the B7 shape Audi A4 (2.0 turbo FSI - petrol).

for M3 money i could have a much newer/lower mileage A4 and mod it to look like this:

    *reiger kit, lowered, RS4 wheels

Included in the same price would be some slight performance fettling to take it upto around a comfortable 260BHP and 350NM of very usable power in a well planted 4WD system. but... an M3... hmm.

    so:

    VS

same money... what would you go for?

Sorry the Audi is a very good car as you have said,
    but so is the BMW.
I have had BMWs now for over 10 years, so have to say BMW.

    My B10 3.3

indeed the BMW is a great car. I have one now; a 330 sport coupe. The thing is, apart from power, an M3 wouldnt be much different to mine, and deep down i think i would quite like a fresh change.

I think the 260bhp in the 4WD audi would actually be a lot more usable than the 330bhp in the RWD M3. Much more planted and stable, and confidence inspiring. All the torque would be damn usefull too.

looks wise, from the angle in the pic above, the audi looks very mean and purposefull, and the ///M looks more relaxed. not sure which i prefer.

some more pics a reiger kitted of A4 here

Audi all the way for me.

BMW's all look the same pretty much and the Audi looks more classy.

I really like Audis but for your age i think the M3 would be the best choice, i turned 20 not long ago and i drive a saloon car so i'm not saying a saloon car is not for young people but if i had to buy a expensive car i would get the M3 unless the Audi is a RS4 then its a different story

i can't see any of the pics in the first post - have you altered the links by any chance?

But I'd prefer the Audi to the BMW any day, there's a certain stigma attached to owning an M3 in particular that puts me off, but then again thats just my opinion - go with what you like best, or if its too close to call then get out there and compare the cars on the market and buy the one in the best nick for the money
    NOW - Sapphire Black 3dr Astra G

    THEN - Glacier White 2.0Di Estate - 136bhp 1.6 Pineapple Yellow Mk3 - Flame Red 2.0Di Van - Chianti Red 1.8 Coupe - Star Silver 2.2 Zafira - Flame Red 2.2 Linea Rossa Coupe - Titan Gold 1.8 Coupe

9 Years, 7 Astras, 1 Zafira, No Regrets.

nope not done anything to the links. I suspect imageshack is playing up temporarily.
While the audi is excellent in many ways, i think i'm leaning toward the M... here is another comparison pic (I photoshopped the cars), with a new contender (merc CLK270 TDI) in the action. I think I have already discounted that one though.

the audi is big and burley, but the M3 has a certain ruthlessness i love. As said, the overall running costs will be much higher than the other 2 though.
