    Dodgy alternator......

Hi there, was wondering if anyone else has the same problem as i do on my 1.6 16v Sport MK3

My Alternator does'nt kick in until 3500 rpm, a couple of times i have forgotten to rev it and drove at low revs, turned the car off when finished and then when i return the battery is dead as a pancake

Resulted in me and the girlfriend trying to bump it the other night, middle of Norwich in the rain

Gonna get a recon alternator after Christmas i guess but until then .............

Does the battery light stay on until you rev it high, have you checked the alternator drive belt for tightness? All things that could be looked at first but like you say it probably is the alternator on its way out

i have a volt gauge on mine, it shows 12v with ign on, and 14.5v on tick over. you def have an output problem mate.. normally, the regulator "kicks in" shortly after you have fired her up, and should show a constant voltage. if your alternator charge light is on then, err houston....... best of luck.
