Cool Emissions Light (bit different this time!)

Hiya, I've been taking a look at this Club Forum for a couple of weeks now (just got a 2001 1.6 SXi after getting my 1 yrs NCB!) and I thought I'd join to get some help.

It looks like a common fault with the Astras are the emissions lights on the dashboard.

Mine has been lit up for the past 2 weeks (but very dimly so I can only see it @ night ) and I took it to a local garage today who hooked it up to the machine and read the ECU - the only fault code registered was "A/C Low Voltage" or something similar.

They reset the ECU, took my £30 and told me to be on my way! Right now it's turned off - but what should I do if it turns back on

Have it re-diagnosed and see if the same fault re-occurs then go on the hunt for the wiring I have no doubt is responsible for turning the light on.

thats like saying i got a flat tyre - i pumped it up and its ok now...but what do i do if it happens again?

Well as Jam says....u do the same thing again - get the ECU read and the fault diagnosed - it could be a multitude of faults that flags up the ECU light so IF it occurs again - dont assume its the same as before.

Welcome to the site anyway - hope u find the site as useful and informative as the rest of us have.

Well that'd be the thing - it's not affected performance whatsoever and the only ECU Fault code found related to my A/C (probz needs regassing - Kwik Fit mission in a few months time).

If it does happen again I told them it'll be coming back to them straight away. As for a pic of my shiny Astra, well it seems rather average compared to almost all the ones I've seen here!

Here she is anyway - I'm kinda proud, sadly though the previous owner was a smoker. Managed to get a fair bit of that smoky whiff outta there though!

Yeah, I went Kwik Fit with my old Punto - really poor service, but compared to other motorplaces they do charge a lot less for AC regassing.

In terms of plans, nothing major at the mo - an Irmy grill/door pins (maybe) should do it, alongside the normal audio stuff. I think a 10" sub & amp package and £100 Sony HU should do it for now.

But then again it might just be the beginning of something more ambitious.
How hard is it to change the grill? More concerned about having to cut off half the plastic safety latch though....

u dont have to cut the bonnet release tab - u can leave it poking out the front like i have on mine - never got round to modding it.

changing the grill should only take about 10mins tops

Sounds good, I've checked out the engine bay (make sure shez OK for winter & everything) and I saw that therez just a few screws & clips on the grill so I doubt it'll be too difficult.

What do you think of these grill & badge kits on eBay?

Also, isn't leaving the release tab poking out a security risk

lock the car with keypad, and try and open bonnet lol

Or pull the lever INSIDE THE car but leave the bonnet down, lock the car, then open the bonnet, your alarm will go off mate. I left my bonnet tab alone lol

So in other words, itz fine to leave the release tab sticking out?
If thatz the case I'll probably get the grill later on & sort it out - just paint it black to match the grill...
