    Strange sound whilst reversing

Ok people, I have done many searches for this but found nothing similar to my problem..
When my car is in reverse it is making a different sound to usual. It still has the normal reversing sound but now it is intermitant so the same sound but not consistant..... dont know if that makes any sense??
It makes the sound clutch in and out while moving backwards in gear but no sound if gear not engaged (rolling back)
I am hoping this could just be the oil needs changing but thought I would ask first.
    any advice appreciated.

make sure you dont have your foot depressing the clutch, does it only happen when you reverse and turn left or right?

I would guess at excessive wear in the reverse idler,as long as it doesn,t give out then you should be ok if you can ignore the sound..make preparations for replacing gear box in the near future

Ok so i went to the garage and I have booked it i for it's full service gearbox oil change and mot, fingers crossed it just needs a oilchange.

Is this the right gearbox for my car (1.8 coupe) it seems a bargain for a new gearbox.
