    emission warning light

    HI all

Had this warning light come on ( constant)- the following morning the car wouldn't start the AA guy started it and then stated he had identified the problem as a heater (?) that is mounted on the exhaust manifold ( can not see it in my haynes book) ion the engine compartment- he deleted the error from the management system and the light went out.
Next day the light is back on and I have booked it into the dealer to be fixed

What is this part called ?

any idea how much this sensor will be if they have to replace ?

Can I get trade with out my memebers card for Forest gate kettering ?

    many thanks

    What engine?

I may be incorrect, but it sounds like he might be talking about a pre-cat heated O2 sensor. If so, £100-ish from VX, £50-ish from eBay

Cancel the booking at the dealer and get ur self a new Lambda/O2 sensor instead...... ideally it would be good to know what the fault code was that was removed.. Any way you could contact the AA guy who may know or recall the situation and ask if it was the O2 sensor?

Trade discount is only for parts - plus we're still setting up the discount scheme due to backlogs with Vauxhall & VBOA etc....so doubt this will come into play here.

If it was me, Id buy a new Lambda sesor on ebay (from a Vauxhall specialist), fit it yourself and jobs a good un! fingers crossed.

Had a look at ur past posts and notice u have a 1.6 16v - now what year is it?

    X16XEL is part number 9118698
Z16XE is 25321313 early models, 25335280 later models - prices range from £40-70 depending on model (ebay) - dealer prices will be extortionate!

Obviously, you could retain ur bookin at the dealers BUT they'll charge u another £60 or so for a diagnostic hook up (which youve already had and found the fault) then god knows how much more for work u dont need then they'll try to sell u the sensor..... Just a cynical view of the Vauxhall dealers Im afraid ....

Sorry to disappoint but the £15.99 one wont fit your engine... its only for the 1.6 8v X16SZR model

Seeing as your car is on the changeover year then it could be either the X16XEL or Z16XE

The easiest way to establish which one is by the location of the catalytic convertor.

If the cat resides underneath the car on the front pipe - after the flexi pipe just before it meets the centre section then its the early X16XE model.
If your exhaust manifold has a large cylinder just after the headers then its the Z16XE model...you will notice that the front pipe underneath the car just features a flexi section and a straight pipe as the cat is uptop on the manifold.

    X16XEL Lambda sensor - approx £65 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vauxhall-Lambd...QQcmdZViewItem

    Z16XE Lambda sensor - approx £60 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vauxhall-Lambd...QQcmdZViewItem

Just make sure your engine number (found on V5) ties in with the engine numbers in the above listing....as later Z16XE models used a different part (here: £50 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vauxhall-Lambd...QQcmdZViewItem)

If its the last one then theres even an auction format listing at present so could get a bargain... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vauxhall-Lambd...QQcmdZViewItem

**Obviously LMF might be able to do a better deal but at least u can see the part numbers/part/prices etc on ebay **

an image of the engine bay isnt really the best way as both can look identical to the untrained eye.... where as the location of a big fat silencer cant really be missed.
