Performance Chipping a 1.9 CDTI Diesel Engine

Ok I'm a complete novice at this so a few questions:

    1. What chip would you recommend?
    2. How easy is it to fit (Can you talk me through it)
    3. Does it invalidate the Vauxhall warranty?
    4. Do you have to make any other mods to cope with the extra power?
    5. Can it be easily removed when selling the car on?
    6. What sort of cost are they?
    7. What effect does the mod have on the "Sport" button?

    Any other advice?

You won't be able to 'chip' the 1.9CDTI as this is an old term very rarely used. Chips used to run the car as the ECU and they were replaced with a chip with a better map on it. Nowadays we remap which involves writing over the current ECU with an enhanced map. The computer plugs into the ODB2 (onboard diagnostics port) on your car in order to remap the ECU.

There are numerous places offering various maps....
    Courtenay Sport (Norwich)
    Regal Auto Sport (Southampton)
    VXR Performance Centre (Oxfordshire)
    Thorney Motorsport (Milton Keynes)
are but a few places remaps are available.

Each one comes with good and bad points price/bhp/torque is all in the mix. You can have a torqey map which gives you more torque or then theres a BHP map which strives for BHP to the max. Your best off consulting the above tuners and ask them for their opinions. Of course there are tuning boxes as well now a days which (in most cases) plug into the fuel rail and increases the pressure. Some tuning boxes claim to remap the car but as yet I'm yet to see one myself so I remain sceptical. The good thing is tuning boxes can be removed from one car and put onto another one where as maps can't. This also helps with any warranty issues that may arise.

My advice would be to talk to Thorney or VXRPC whilst your car is under warranty. Thorney motorsport are also a Vauxhall service centre and can replace items under warranty and understand mapping thoroughly as opposed to normal dealerships who would more than likely use it as an excuse to loose your warranty. Yes your warranty for parts affected by the modification! VXRPC and Thorney maybe able to help you more!
Not even the VXRPC will save your warranty!

The DTUK boxes aren't as good as people make out tbh. rizo on here will vouch for that. For months he's claimed that he's running 200bhp with just one of these boxes added. When we had our rolling road day, the best he could manage after 3 runs was 184bhp with 2 fat blokes sat on his bonnet. the only thing that really increased dramatically was the cloud of black somke out of his exhaust

From 150bhp to 184bhp is still a good gain if you ask me, for what £250?

1.7DTi, remap. jcastraDTi had a tuning box on his and reckoned it made no difference.

TwinTop, Regals do some good power gains for the 1.9CDTi

Not really. Over here we've seen 179hp out of a totally standard, low mileage 1.9-150 on the rollers (baz's SRi).

Tuning boxes are the modern equivalent of the EBay resistor trick. They force a part of your engine to run out of spec.
