    Oil filter tools?

    What tool do i need to get the oil filter cannister out on my mk4 2001 SXI ?

    Hello Mate,

    i use plyers grips, grip it from the the front looking over the engine and twist a bit at a time till i can undo it with my hand.

    BTW there will b a bit of oil in the filter

    i just hammer a big screwdriver into it mate and turn.a bit messy but i find it easier than using those grips

    what engine is it? And is it a sealed filter or an element type?

    Sealed filters i use the chain removal tool, i change the oil usually every 5-6k. Smear oil on the seal of the new filter and tighten it up as tight as i can by hand.
    Put tool on, with a ratchet and socket to fit.
    Tighten the chain up and start twisting, comes off rather easy.

    i used rubber gloves to tighten it back up as well so it gives you that little bit more grip!
