Astra 1.7DTi ECO4, engine noise, is it fubarred

Hi all, after recently buying the wife a Astra 1.7DTi ECO4 51plate as a surprise, everything was fine engine noise wise etc, until Saturday afternoon, when all of a sudden, noises started coming from the engine bay at about 50mph, so I pulled over to check, I thought the noise was coming from the pulley on the AirCon Compressor, so I carried on gingerly, engine was fine pulling wise, the noise got louder then after a mile the oil light flashed on and off, so I pulled over and called the Breakdown for a tow home.

The engine noise is loud, like something rattleling inside, I thought Oil Pump as the light was flashing.

Is this common on these engines ? Is the engine fubarred ?
The engine has done 117k with service history.

Thanks in advance for any advice

The Oil level has risen, the wife only put 1/2 a litre in about 3weeks ago, I can even tell that from the oil can.

A mate has now got the car in his workshop, reckons its the oil pump housing/shaft etc, he will be checking it tomorrow.
