Ok here we go, another month and another continetal invasion. This time the destination was the Nururgring.
Departure - Wednesday the 21st was our departure date, and it meant yet again a trip down to North Shields to catch the DFDS cattle car.
20hours of pure hell later and we arrived to see the sunny sight of Ijmuden:
Turbodave cracked the map out and looked confused:
Out of Ijmuden we headed south to Nurburg. Drive there was rather interesting, more so when we hit the Autbahn and decided to give the locals a run for their money. This was whilst chasing an Audi 3.0 CDTi and BMW 3 series (this was also the limiter in 5th gear due to the Vectras outstanding gearbox):
Gratious pic of daves ST;
We travelled for an hour or so before a quick McDonalds stop, it was at this point that Turbodave decided that he was finding the trip going a little too smoothly and promptly decided to go break something:
After 3 hours or so and 230miles we finally arrived at our B&B located in Nurburg just 300yards or so from the entrance to the ring. We were also greeted by this, a good sign I felt:
There was also a little reminder in the carpark of what can happen if you get it wrong:
Friday was a practice day at the ring for the racing on Saturday. We also took this opportunity to visit the Nurburgring museum followed by the guided backstage tour (this proved a superb idea as we got to see a lot of the cars in action:
Winners wall, some true legends on there:
An awesome Porsche that was doing passenger laps:
no idea what this was but looked interesting all the same:
We also found these in the car park:
Few pics from the Grand Prix circuit:
Once we had finished that we headed over to a viewing spot to watch some of the practice:
Vectra with the track as a back drop:
Part 2 to follow.
