    MK4 Diesel Astra Electrical prob

My friend has a MK4 Astra diesel (1.7 commonrail) cdti 03reg.

The engine cut out on a journey and wouldnt start again for about 20 min. RAC came and it started fine, no fault registered. It cut out again 2 miles later and this time registered a fault between the fuel pump and injectors. Now will only start for 5 mins before cutting out. The garage has tried a new ecu and that has not helped.

They say the car is returning 'no fault' so they cant diagnose the problem at the garage. Theyve had it for 3 weeks and cant ficx it.

Is the fuel pump a problem on these cars?

Has anyone got any experience with these sort of problems.

Fuel pump isn't a particular problem with them, but it does sound like that could be the issue all right.

You'll probably need a Tech2 unit to read the codes properly - MY03 and above seem a little strange on the OBDII interface, for example mine won't interface with a Snap-On type fault reader, but works OK with my lead for the computer.

I hope the garage didn't charge for the ECU - they sound like they're stumbling around in the dark and throwing parts at the thing.
