Are Sigma alarms any good?? Plz advise :)..

    Hi guys,
I need a good alarm for my Astra coupe, I found a local fitter whos fully certified, etc.
They only stock Sigma alarms, here's their stock..
    http://www.topbananamobile.co.uk/sigma.htm
I'm looking to get the top of the range S30 for £279.99 fitted.
Is this a good deal? I've seen other places wanting over £300 for the same bit of kit.
Is this alarm good??? ANY advice will be most welcome!

YES - Sigma are a good make

    BUT

If you already have an alarm then why get another one? The standard one is already Thatcham Cat 1 so any "upgrade" is purely just either for asthetics or just cos u "want" one.......or have I missed something?

Yes but only if the person fitting the alarms any good

To expand I fit these all the time at work and can honestly say in the 3 or 4 years i've been doing the "S" series i've had 2 faulty units

You don't need to go for the S30 though as this is a full cat 1 alarm and the astra coupe's already have a cat 2 immobiliser fitted as standard meaning you only have to upgrade to a cat 1

There's 2 alarms you could then go for, one being the S34 which is the same as the S30 but without the twin immobilisation or you could go for the S32 which then links onto your factory remotes and works as good as the factory alarm would if fitted corectly

If your coupe has the factory alarm fitted though then forget about one as you already have a cat 1 alarm

Thanks for the advice guys, but my coupe has NO alarm! And I only presume has an immobiliser, which I expect it does.

It's a X Reg (Dec 2000) 1.8 Bertone coupe, I thought only the turbo came with the crappy standard Vauxhall alarm??? :/

    Please advise!

Nope... It was standard on quite a few models and optional on most others.

If you have a LED built into your hazard warning switch (just below the symbol) then u have the OE alarm .

Obviously if u say u dont have one then I believe u - Im just pointing out for those who arent so sure.

As for being "crappy" .... its a Cat 1 so it can't be that crappy! The only thing crappy IMO is the varying lifespan of the backup powersounder batteries....but still no major hardship.

I'll step aside and let Autosparks continue on this one

sparks himself fitted my coupe with a sigma alarm... can't complain!

It's worked flawlessly, and he even installed the window closing option for me too. bonus.

All the MK4 Astra's had a built in immobiliser thats cat 2 already so the options up to you really if you want it linked to the factory remotes or with it's own

Going for the upgrade alarm should save you about £50 aswell. EDIT: just seen the link and prices and it will only save you £20 with them but still worth it as there's no need to double up on the immobilisation. They should be able to advise you though

and rusty yes it's been a while!!!
