    Engine or electrical problems?

So i start by driving my car.. Battery light comes on. then the power stearing goes. followed by in this order the lights on dials coming on and staying on. ABS/ T.C / seat belt pretensioner / ENGINE MANAGEMENT and then finally exhaust emissions and the car cut out.. going off my general knowledge im ashuming my alternater is charging the battery hense why the small elec systems such as abs/ t.c come on and finally engine management. or is it something worse? ive had the car diagnosed before and had an alternator change but the same thing has happened again.. now i dont know whether it could be something else? you tell me? or the garage are incompetant and didnt fix the car properly.. any help would be appreciated as im facing a bill. thank you...

...please please please use that return key to break up what your saying !!!

anyway, I'm assuming the battery is flat...

Your new alternator could be knackered - and therefore maybe still under warranty ?
It also could be something as simple as the earth strap. (I had a dodgy earth strap problem on one of my old astras, so the battery was not getting charged)

If you're not happy with the lpace you used before, get a second opinion from another garage...
..or sneakily join a breakdown service, charge the battery up[ and go and break down somewhere !!!
(make sure it's more than a couple of miles from your home if you dont get 'homestart')

Try jump starting it and put a volt meter on the batery terminals. You should see about 14 volts with the engine running

where abouts is the earth strap and what does it look like is it something i could tighten on my driveway?

its gonig to a garage tomorrow for a second opinion. i do have breakdown cover.. if i take it out n breakdown. say down a countryside. act dumb and say i think it could be the earth strap or alternator. will they fix it at their cost or do i pay?

    thanks

They will do a temporary repair if they can fix it. If its the alternator they will sell you one and fit it for free.
