    Mates Cooper 'S' written off...

A mate took his 52 reg cooper S for an MOT 3 weeks ago...

Gets a phone call from the manager of the centre saying there has been a fire

My mate gets there to see his mint Cooper S, smouldering away. The fire was contained in the engine bay, but the damage was pretty severe.

The garage claimed that it began smoking after the test (didnt say if it passed or not) and when they opened the bonnet it was well alight.
My friend cannot validate this or not as he was not present, but the garage dont really want to know.

Legally, he is not sure where he stands so he had to involve his insurer.
It was officially deemed a write off this afternoon. Understandably he is gutted.

Going by my sources he could get anything from £5600 - £7k...

Anyone heard of the coopers going up in flames.

Completely 100% the garages responsibility. While they have the car it is covered under their insurance - so they should be paying.

Dependant on their setup he could ask for a like for like replacement - but this is a massive loophole tbh.

! Bet the guy is gutted!

As steve said whilst the car is in the garages possesion then it will be under their insurance, this is why UK companies have to have public liabitity insurance by law

I presumed that this maybe the case, but he is desperate to get mobile again (100 miles commute per day) so wants it resolved in the quickest possible way.
As there was a confusion of blame and fault, they cant provide a hire vehicle as they dont know who to charge the bill to.
Would it be worthwhile asking for the garages insurance cover note? If nothing else, but to put the wind up them?

Here is the car in its former glory. Massive spec, every option taken at new.

Definately ask the garage for their insurance details and a claim form. See what response he gets. Dont forget that he would also be able to claim a hire car back to them if they are proven liable - which is in no doubt !

Would not suprise me if it was raged within a inch of its life by the garage prior to the mot, one of my frieds was having his car mot'ed and he was driving his mrs car and his car came past him at over 100mph!!

Its un-explainable to someone that wasnt there, but many a time I have seen an MOT tester have a fag over the engine bay whilst testing. Purely speculation....

Its a fast fit type of place...you can imagine the type of staff they have.
