new car on friday - vectra 1.9 cdti 120

    Evening all!

Been away for about 6 months after i p/x'd my 2002 astra g sxi for a 56 reg fiesta 1.4 tdci.

It's been a really good little car while i've needed it for commutes to work, (70-odd mpg, £35 road tax) but i got offered a good deal today that i couldnt refuse!

The fiesta was £8500 as an ex-demo, 2 months old with 1500 miles (was nearer to £12000 brand new!!)

Now Fiesta has done 12k miles and a local dealer has offered to swap it for a 04 reg vectra 1.9 cdti 120 design (38k miles, one owner, mint condition).
Well i say swap, he wants £295 plus my fiesta.

Good deal do you think? I signed my name straight away!!

is it the older 120 engine or the newer one ?

aint the older 120's just de-tuned 150's and can be remapped to the same ?

    Different Engines

The 120ps engine is 8 valve.
The 150ps engine is 16 valve.

The 120ps can be reach up to 150 quite easily. Mapping/box etc.

if you re-read my post you will understand what i mean

    the early 120's were de-tuned 150 16v units

    I think I'm being stupid.

I had a '04' 1.9 Cdti Sri 120ps Vectra, a '05' 1.9 Cdti Sri 120 Vectra and I was led to believe that these were 8 valve engines.

    I then had a '55' 1.9 Cdti 150 which was a 16 valve engine.

not sure how far back they were tbh

apparently the 888 Cdti's were the old 120's hence why they tuned to 200bhp

Not in the vec, they only got the 8v engine. As Danny said some times they are wrong on the V5 so check where the oil filler cap is to see if its an 8v or 16v engine. Easist way to tell for sure. 16V is on the right, 8V is on the left.
