Intermittent horn, air con and radio...!

    Hi Everyone.

I wonder if anyone can help / or has experienced this before.

I've got an 06 Astra Sport Hatch - the 1.6 twinport.

Recently odd things have been happening with the electricals. First the air conditioning would intermittently refuse to work - all of a sudden I would notice the light has gone off, then later it would randomly turn itself back on.

This week I've noticed the horn is only working now and again (obviously a much more serious problem) and the radio sometimes mutes for a second then reappears (I've got the CD70 with sat nav).

The car is booked in at the dealers this week, but I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has come across this too.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Sounds like an earth problem to me - check the main earth lead at the battery.

I believe that the unit (CIM?) on the steering column has been known to go faulty so this could cause the horn and radio problem, AC problem is porrobably unrelated

Let us know what the dealers say though

yea the horn ios a common fault - vaux should supply new cim under warranty - they did for mine and several others!

    Update...

    Hey Guys.

The garage took a look at the Astra this morning.

They've carried out a recall on the front struts - apparently that's a known issue..? and ordered me a new part for the clutch to fix a known juddering that occurs.

However they haven't been able to find anything wrong with the steering wheel audio controls, the horn, or the air con.

Apparently the air con is only meant to be used when the dial is on cold - desite the manual advising that the best way to clear the windscreen is by whacking it on hot and turning the aircon on..?

I'll collect the car and see how things go, it just seems a little odd - especially as no fault codes came out of the engine computer thingy!

This is the problem with intermitiant faults, unless it plays up when it's in there it's very hard to trace

As for the AC only to be used when it's on cold thats rubbish. You should use it all year round to help demist your windows as you say and also to keep the system in good working order otherwise the oil in the system drains to one point and the seals dry out

I recently got an 07 Astra SRi XP and I think the clutch is a little juddery - reckon it's worth getting the garage to look at it?
