    alu knob removal

    is the aluminiminiminimum gear knob in my coupe standard?

    its a cold hidieous turd of a thing which i wana remove. is it just a pull towards jobbie? are they glued in? and anything i should be made aware of? ie springing err.....springs.

    Yes its standard, you will struggle to remove it without assistance from a junior hacksaw

    They are forced onto a metal shaft, and the gear stick will probably rip out of the car, before the knob will come off the end.

    Love the description! I wish they made a VXR style knob for the G! If they did my hideous turd of a thing turd of a thing would be coming off to!

    aww, that sucks! i have a nice irmscher carbon fibre one from germany waiting to go on.

    this one wont be sooo cold and crapy. maybe i could knit a knob warmer! im sure these have already been done too!

    the best thing i found was to actually remove the gear stick out of the car and use an angle grinder, thats how much of a pain in the rear it is to get off!!

    well worth it in the end though in my opinion.

    just wish someone would of told me this in the 1st place would of stopped unwanted agony and pain of the hacksaw in the car for an hour :P

    to remove stick, what do i do? i replaced my vectra one for the shorther astra one last year and that was just a simple ball joint and pin jobbie. is this the same?

    LOL I removed the ally bit of the knob on Monday it nearly took me two hours of hacking and levering before it gave up and came off. But it was all worth it as you can see below. I also replaced the gaitor for a proper leather one.
