    define "limited"...

my insurance has a "limit" on it of 8000 miles but they have never asked my mileage so how would they know.. I'm assuming you mean limited mileage for show cars or weekend cars, in which case I can't help you.

my policy with the AA dropped from £540 to £350 when I reduced my mileage from 20k to 8k though

i believe they're the same as any other policy, you just have to register your mileage (which I guess they may verify through MOTs or with a guy coming out to check) and then they do it again at the end of the year. I know that you have to pay a set fee per mile you go over your limit though

I have never really understood how they would enforce these, if you go over the allowed miles you can always just say someone else did those extra miles. Or is these something stupid in the policy saying no one else can drive the car but i cant see there being.

Basically all insurance policies rely on you telling the truth, I mean they don't come out and check your car is the one you tell them and they don't check your occupation and where you live. But they will check these things if you make a claim. They could check the mileage by consulting previous MOTs or service records for example. It's one of thos things where there is a good chance they would never know you were lying, but it's never worth the risk.
