    1.7 timing belt

    Hi

Could someone please tell me if it is hard to change the timing belt on a 1.7 (isuzu) DTI as in the haynes manual it looks straight forward. Ive changed the belt on rovers before but you had to lock the cams in position and set the timing marks on the crank, in the manual there is no mention of anything like this.

Ive just noticed the interval is 40000 and i have no evidence that mine has ever been changed (now 86000 )

40k is recommended, 80k is the interval. Time to change it I think.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think there is a locking tool for that engine (or justm ake your own mark with paint/Tipp-Ex or whatever). Someone more familiar with the 1.7 will be on to clarify I'm sure.

ok thanx, is it just me or are haynes manuals not as much help as they used to be, they seem to be now written by students who know the theory but have no idea of the practical side.

Only thing the Haynes manual for the Astra is good for is stopping your trolly jack sinking into the yard.
