    driving documents

i have been watching one of the traffic cop type programs on sky and they have said many times that it is an offense not to have all your driving documents with you

i always carry my photo card part of my licence but thats it.

the rest of my documents are kept safe at home.

anyone else have the following with them or in there car at all times?

licence - photo card part and paper part
    insurance certificate
    log book
    MOT cerificate

to me leaving all this especially the log book with a car is just stupid but am i really breaking the law in being security conscience??

cheers guys that was my undersatanding aswell.

as long as you can produce your document on request within 7 days then its ok.

don't know what the copy cat program was on about.

the only time i had a 7 day wonder i confussed the girl behind the desk as i produced all my documents before the 7 days came into effect

as has been said, thats what 7 day producers are for

I remember reading as well, that if you're pulled over for speeding, then submitting your license at the time is an admission of guilt, and you have no comeback to fight it, whereas if you provide your license after a producer then you're merely complying with the law... so perhaps best not to admit to carrying anything in the car if pulled over?!

Never heard that before. I knw if you apologise etc then thats an admission of guilt. So shutup, look confused and just act dumb and they generall leave you alone. Theyre trained to trick you into admitting it one way or another, so dont say anything.

As for documents i've never heard that you have to carry them.

Wouldn't take what they say as gospel.
Was watching one the other other day and the commentator was saying "this driver was thrashing his car" the on screen speedo said 34 mph
Then they said they were following a vectra, when the boot of the car was in full view and said cavalier

i have been stopped a couple of times in the passed and only had one producer, i never carry any documents and i was only giving the producer because when the cops called the office to check my info was correct at that time it was busy and the info could not be checked, plus also my car was showing up as no insurance as it was a company car on a fleet policy

OK guys read this thread, some of the replies are from Traffic cops, one is from a magistrate.
It is an offence NOT to carry your documents BUT, they understand people don't like to carry them for fear of them going AWOL.You will only be prosecuted if you fail to produce in 7 days.
