For those who've removed their MFD...

...what do you do for a clock in the car?

I have a little mod I'm working on and am just doing a bit of research at the minute, so if anyone can help/offer their opinions, I'd be grateful.

    Few Q's:

    1. Where do you think a clock would work best in a mk4 (other than in the top of the console)?

    2. What style do you think would look best (eg a digital clock or not?)

    3. What other functions (i.e. date & outside temp) do you particularly miss now you've removed the MFD?

My dad has a smallish Oxford digital clock stuck on the top yoke of his motorbike forks, which if youre not too fussed about looks would be easy to fit somewhere, cheap too IIRC.

I've still got my MFD but i'd miss the outside temp (not important but something to moan about when its too hot/cold!) and the time and my Trip computer info.

I've got a few parts cobbled together for clocks etc, looking a lot better than a stick on jobbie but thanks for the input. I understand what you're saying about losing the trip computer, I'm not sure how to replicate that display though without simply moving the MFD, in which case you wouldn't need a new clock/temp reading

I'm more targetting these mods at those who've got a non-trip computer MFD and have taken it out in order to fit a satnav console with screen/tomtom etc

Stick on would look crap i agree, but it's small enough to be able to smooth in somewhere, although im not sure on battery access.

I have the clock mod 99% sussed now...

will post pics when its up & working, I've just got to finish off the flushing in

outside temp display is being a bugger, it works when ignition in ACC position, but when ignition on I just get - - - - on the display... I think I must have a permanent live and an ignition live connected to side of a terminal somewhere task for that will be how to fit it in the car

again, pics to follow when sorted 100%

I don't necessarily need emoticons Keith... I've got google images!

I'm not going to post a pic of the clock/temp display as it will give the game away, but suffice to say I'm trying to mount a clock thats approx 50mm x 20mm and is 45mm deep (plus a little space behind for wiring) and the temp display is approx 30mm x 20mm and is approx 5mm deep (plus a little wiring behind, same as the clock)

any ideas..? Was thinking of mounting it to the custom panel I've made to replace the ashtray, but it's too low to be easily visible...
