Vauxhall asking me to do a 1000 mile test...

My car has been using a lot of oil recentley (http://www.astraownersclub.com/vb/sh...d.php?t=116297)

Basically they were unable to find any problem with the car.... They have asked me to run a test for 1000 miles where I keep a log of the oil used (what we top it up by etc.)

Are they trying to fob me off...? I'm not sure what to do.

    Thanks,

    Frostie

Of course they're not trying to fob you off !

It's to determine how much oil is getting used
....they (vauxhall) state an 'acceptable' oil useage of 1 litre per 1000 miles....

Sounds fair to me. Its hard to test for how much a car is using by having the car for a day at the dealers. They cant afford for a tech to be out driving your car for a day.

I just thought I'd check. Would it be worth asking them to reimburse the difference in oil usage and petrol costs. And also ask them to cover me if the engine were to break down / sieze up / blow up while I'm travelling as I'm doing 200 miles a day on the motorway?

    Thanks,

    Frostie

...sorry did'nt mean to sound harsh !

I they wont reimburse you, I'd presume you have to do the mielage as per normal driving....just report back when you've done a 1000.

It;s in your interest to pay anyway - can you imagine labour charges for a Vxl technician to drive it 1000 miles !

Vauxhall asked my mum to do the same with her active when it was in warranty, they ended up fitting new piston rings.

Don't worry about it. It just gonna cost me a lot of money. c.£50 to do a trip to work and back which normally costs £20. And I only bought the car 4 weeks ago!!!
