Engine runs after ignition turned off! 1.7 D

    hi all

    interesting one,

got a 1.7 N/A Diesel, L reg, GM lump, and as it says in the title, it continues to run even when the ignition is switched off and the keys are removed . only way to stop it is to stall the engine.

is this an ignition switch fault, or fuel pump or something. dont have a manual for disel models to check over the wiring diagrmas etc. so any help much appreciated.

    thanks

There is a solenoid that stops the fuel pump when you turn off the ignition. It sounds like this has broken (ie. the fuel pump keeps going). Unlike a petrol engine, diesel engines will keep running as long as there is a supply of fuel). Should be fairly easy to sort.

petrol is different its call over run when the valves havent shut properly, run some v power / injector through it and it will stop.

I bet the op has run out of fuel by now ;-)

That will be because you have fitted the wrong bulb and its back feeding and keeping he ignition on.

    Change the bulb.
