If you know which one side it is or even if it is the pre-tensioner then you can replace it manually. But first....

Check under the seats for the connections to the airbag/pre-tensioner systems. With the MK4 theres an issue of the wires breaking due to moving the seat around ect. So make sure they are all ok and are firmly plugged into the little black box under the seat. But before you do this make sure you unplug the battery for at least 30 minutes before you start messing.

Or as your car should be under warranty give them the head ache

get out the car its gonna blow!

    just kidding.

As Jam said, check under the seats for broken wires/the plug coming apart. plug coming apart is less likely unless someone had it out at some point and didn't put it back together properly. You haven't changed your seats at all have you? if so and you had the pretensioner plugs disconnected, then turned the ignition on, your airbag light will come on and stay on.

whatever it is (even if you repair/rectify it) you will need to go to VX to get the light switched off

the wiring on the mk5 is different from the mk4, the wires are now protected by a spiral wrap and cable tied to the rails so they wont move
chances are the connector block hasn't been locked fully in
