When the Opel Astra mk5 saloon (sedan) was announced, Vauxhall stated categorically that they wouldn't import any into the UK because demand here is very low for saloons. The saloons being built at Gliwice, Poland are lower trim models aimed mainly at Eastern Europe.

Nothing has changed, as far as I know.

As above - It's mainly aimed at the Eastern European market.

I really like that. For some reason I have never been to keen on the rear of the mk5 hatch, don't get me wrong it wouldn't stop me from getting one...but I do like that saloon

    They'll be left-hand drive though.

I prefer saloons - bigger boot with contents hidden from prying eyes, stiffer bodyshell so less shake on poor surfaces, better aerodynamics and not one of the herd!

If this Astra-H saloon had been available from Vauxhall in 2004, I'd have traded my -G saloon for one - so I've had to keep it but no hardship there!

Quite like that! I wonder if they will make rhd versions and Opel Ireland will import them...astra saloons have always been popular in the Republic.

How can a saloon have a stiffer chasis than a 3door hatch or coupe?
