    ECU question

    Hi,
This is my first post here. I hope someone can help with this query. My Mk4 Astra auto is stuck in top gear and the local garage said it requires a new transmission ECU and would have to go to a Vauxhall dealer for fitting and programming. I have also been told elsewhere that only the engine ECU needs programming and the transmission ECU does not.

I have found a place on the net that supplies ECU's if given the part No. on the casing.

So does a transmission ECU need programming and does it need to be fitted by a Vauxhall main dealer.

    Hope you can help.

    Dave

    not that ECU sximk4...

Unfortunately even MrHaynes advises that due to the complexity of the automatic control system, Vauxhall should be used.

Just for your info, the ecu is in the centre console.

I am asking whether or not a new "Transmission ECU" needs programming. I don't believe you understood the original post.

As nobody here seems to know the answer I will hand over the £250 that Vauxhall want to fit a new one, at least I will be able to take the car back if it goes wrong.
