Anyone had a faulty xbox 360 and sent it back to microsoft?

Mine started crashing loads and things the other day so i rang microsoft and they sent me a email with all the info about getting ups to pic it up etc etc and this morning i turn it on to take the game out and all i have is red lights on the front so i think that means its spat its dummy out even more!

has anyone else sent it back to them? if so how long did it take and do they give you a new one or just fix this one?

Also how do i go about getting my xbox live tag back

    Thanks

    Nick

Recover gamertag, when you try and sign into xbox live, it will ask for your e-mail and so forth. I think you get it back in two weeks from when it gets picked up, as to wether you get a new one, re-conditioned one or your old back fixed i'm not certain. derpends on the damage.

My friend had to send his back, it took about a month to get it back from them, but they were busy at the time.

He has recovered his game tag ok.
Tell me what you've done, not what you're going to!

You only send them the console and NOTHING else (that includes removing the Hard Drive meaning you'll keep all your saves, gamertag and other settings), they'll either repair the xbox or replace it with a different repaired one.

Takes 7-10 days for repair but mine only took 6 so not a bad turn around time and i know a couple of other people who have had them back in the same time also.

Don't send them anything apart from the console. Ring ups for a collection(microsoft will email you with a postage label and the number to ring), get the ups driver to sign the receipt. I've returned both of mine once now and both came back in about 4 working days. As for recovering you tag you won't need to if you are keeping your hard drive as it's all stored on there.

The first xbox lasted around 7 months, and we took it back to PC world who did an exchange there and then (unknown hardware fault). The new replacement lasted 2 months (DVD drive fault), we have not sorted it out yet.

I wish we had bought an PS3 instead as the PS2 which was one of the first ones released is still going strong.
