looking at buying an se2...but which 1?

    Hi guys

im looking at buyin an astra coupe se2. There is a difference of £600 on the insurance between the 1.8 and 2.2 so i am wanting you guys to help me decided!

What should i look out for? is there any problems that i should be aware of? What do most people get from a tank of fuel with both the 1.8 and 2.2? I mostly do town driving. Is the 2.2 worth the extra £600?

    Thanks alot!

    Ash

Had a coupe 2.2 and loved it, never driven the 1.8..... on paper they look the same but from other members words the 2.2 is a better engine. One thing to look out for with the 2.2 is if the cam chan and oil feed to the cam chain has been replaiced, the early versions and even some of the later ones suffered cam chain failure. More info on the engine here www.z22se.co.uk

id say the 1.8 is the better engine, but the 2.2 has more potential.

Yeah, think id agree with that but having never driven the 2.2 i cant say for 100%! I can get about 350 to 400 + out of a tank in my 1.8 coupe (when driving sensibly)
THE STATEMENTS MADE ABOVE ARE MERELY MY OPINION AND SHOULD NOT BE INTERPRETED AS STATEMENTS OF FACT UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED

The 1.8 is a great engine IMO! I get about 300 miles to a tank, motorway and then abit of city driving i got about 340-360 out of it. But on a long steady drive at 70mph i rekon you could get 400!

the 1.8 is a good engine but for that small £600 i would go for the power of the 2.2

the 1.8 is a nippy engine and we got 360 miles from grimsby-minehead

I've got one for sale if you decide to go for the 1.8
