need help with vibration from car

im getting a vibration from the steering wheel and slight shaking from the car at motorway speeds, also under braking the car shakes and vibrates, i have a 1999 1.6 8v astra. i had one of the tyres changed today as it had un-even wear and was border line legal, i then inflated al the tyres to the desired level and the promblem is not as bad but still there, any ideas??

thanks in advance for any answers

Were the wheels balanced when the tyre was replaced? You could have lost a weight of one of your wheels. This would cause vibration at speed.

Would be worth getting the others checked, especially the front 2.

Can't see a tyre place charging more than £10 to do it.

Also i'd get the tracking done as well, or you may find that you new tyre starts to suffer from uneven wear.

do you know approx how much tracking and balancing will cost and places i can get it done? the garage i went to today said it would be the brakes but i dont think it is, i havent had the car long bt i think previous owners have just fitted one tyre at a time as they wore, instead of replacing at least two at a a time... thanks for all the help

so kwik-fit etc? does anyone know if this is a common problem with astras as a family member once had one as a rent a car and had the same problem?

Tracking as above will be £25-£30, garage may chuck the balancing in for free if you haggle and pay cash. Or at most an extra tenner.

Best going to a private tyre place for a bargain like this rather than a mainstream place like kwit-fit, Hi-Q etc.

The vibrating under braking may not be linked to the vibrating at speed That could be a separate problem like a warped disc. But tracking/balancing would be my first try to solve the problem.

thanks for all the help, i will get the balancing and tracking done tomorroow as the car is annoying to drive on the motorway due to the steering wheel shaking, if i still have problems under braking should i get new discs and pads?

If when you brake from speed your getting vibration through your steering wheel then most likely cause is warped front discs, as said get your balancing and tracking done first ( tracking won't really affect vibration )
