    Best Oil

    Hi peeps!

I'm going to change the oil in my car this weekend. Just wanted to know what everybody thinks is the best oil to get. I have a MK4 astra 2002 1.8 sri with 60k on the clock. I only drive hard occasionally along the country lanes, but most of the time quite conservatively. I have been recommended the following oils from another site:

    5w-40 or 5w-30 synthetic

    with brands:

    Fuchs
    Motul
    Amsoil
    Castrol

I know there can't be much in, as oil is oil, but I just wondered if anybody had any advice.

Also, where can I get a Veccy C pipe from??

Amsoil is a little overkill, and far too expensive. Any of the others you've chosen are pretty good. I tend to use Fuchs, just because the place down the street sells it. Castrol's Edge stuff is pretty good as well.

Exol optima 10/40 semi synthetic A3 B3 SL - 45 quid for 25 litre drum off ebay. Change every 6k - dont be suckered into changing every 3k

hum,, complicated this one, type in chris longhurst.com and have a read up on oil. at the end of the day you get what you pay for. look at sae and api ratings. you will understand these once you have read up on the subject!!!!!!!!!!!

Go by specification, not descriptives. The lower the nW rating the better the engine will be protected during startup, when most wear occurs.

If you don't do track days, then -30 will be ok.

Use ACEA-A3 and API-SL, SM or SN grades of oil.

From your description of use 5W-30, ACEA-A3, API-SL will be adequate.

The brands you've quoted are probably far more expensive than you need to pay (other than Castrol) but if you really want to pay that sort of money, don't ignore Mobil1 0W-40

Whew mobil1 0w-40! Nice stuff that, personally recommend it!

Although I'm currently running Halfords own, 10w-40 and there's nothing bad about that!

    p.s

Do any of you guys know who makes the Halfords stuff? None of us at work know. Some say it could be comma, but really don't have a clue!
