    MOT Failure!!!

Not as bad as i thought but still harsh when you just got a 190.00 dentist bill and the car tax has ran out, oh a i just got back from a 2 week hol in the algarve which has buckled me.

The failure sheet looks a bit like this:

    2 x 205.40.17 tyres
    exhaust too loud - 74db
    exhaust emissions
    sunstrip too low
park and ride sticker in the window obstructing view
number plate incorrectly spaced - D5NNN
    Rear brake line corroded
    fog lights not working
downpipe to cat pipe join badly corroded.

    nasty!!

several things on that list that you could do yourself within a day

sunstrip easily removed, sticker easy to remove also, number plate just swap for your "standard" one (i assume you got a set printed up yourself with the spacing altered?), and fog lights are easy enough to sort out, check fuses/bulbs which are easy to DIY.

doesn't have to be a bank-breaker mate, do what you can yourself, and lube up the old emergency exit for the garage to do the rest

I'm getting a front coupe bumper for my mk4 astra. It has foglights in it but my original bumper doesn't. I don't necessarily plan to wire up the fogs as i don't have the looms in place, but will it fail the MOT if the front fogs aren't working or is it only the rear fogs that you can fail on??

Will fail, if the lights are fitted they need to work. If you want them but don't want to wire them up, just remove them from the bumper once a year

I thought it was, but reading the MOT check list there isn't any mention of them

yes thats the case... if front fogs are fitted they have to be working, if theyre not fitted, or missing when MOT time comes, they dont have to be working, since they are not present.
