    What would you choose?

A freind is thinking of getting an Astra MK4, hes coming from a Corsa B 1.4 sport

out of these what would you choose:

    1.6 16v SXi
    1.8 16v SXi
    1.8 16v SRi
    2.0 16v Sri
    2.2 16v Sri

    reasons for and against please.

I've said 1.8 SRi, because its faster 0-60 than the 2.0

what are your reasons behind the 2.2

I actually withdraw my 1.8 sri and say 1.8 SXi, same engine, same performance, cheaper insurance than the SRi

I would have the 2.0 16v SRI and make sure it comes with the Irmscher kit!

It should be cheaper than the 2.2 and there isn't much between them in power.

Oh and listen out for a tappety sound which could be the manifold which might have cracked - this is pretty common on most VX of that sort of era - there was 3 in the garage same time when mine was being fixed and it wasn't even a maindealer!!!

    Either 2.0 or 2.2

The only factor to choose between the 2 would be age....as the 2.2 replaced the 2.0

X20XEV is a damn good engine in the G but the Z22SE is my all time fave! One day....I WILL have one

Obviously in this modern society - its not all straight forward....so you've got to consider age and therefore insurance.....

Therefore the 1.8 would certainly be a good choice..

I'd say a 1.8SRi as thats what I had before my coupe.

Nice car to drive and pretty good performance too.

After driving a friends 1.8SXi and a 2.0SRi, I can safely say I prefer my 2.2! True, there isn't an awful lot in the power figures between it and the 2.0, but it feels a lot more flexible and comfortable.

The 1.8 however, has a higher top end due to having a different gear box. Personally, I don't think there is a need for those kinds of speeds anyway, I prefer a nice smooth drive, but a friend took his 1.8 to over 140mph. So if he is after pub talk, that'd be the road to go down I spose. Otherwise, I'd chose the 2.2.

I doubt that 140mph figure for the 1.8 - even if you change the gearing you still need to have the power to get to those high revs in top gear!
The old red top which has more power than 1.8/2.0/2.2 with a good gearbox in the F20 would just nudge 140mph on the **clock**

If it was that easy to go fast buy the 1.6 and go and fit the F28 gearbox should be good for 160 at least on those calculations???

Well i drive the 2.0 (Turbo) and the performance is excellent A mate of mine has a 1.8 SRi and to be honest it isn't a bad car - good performance and economy so my money would be with that.
