    vxr turbo boost pipe ?

ok had some problems last night on motorway, basically the turbo was only kicking in half way and making loud hissing sound, then power dropped off and started to lose speed, car broke down eventually, then recovery towed me home.

basically, took to vauxhall dealer locally today and they checked diagnosed and told me as i have fitted the vxr turbo unit recently, the boost pipe from intercooler to turbo is wrong type and cant handle power the new vxr turbo kicks out.

so basically its cost me £175 to supply part about 75 quid they said and rest is diagnostic fee and fitting.

    does this sound right ?
or is it cheap part and easy to replace ?
i thought you were fine to use the existing pipe which was on a normal turbo unit ?

    puzzled...

they told me its different type of fit and handles power from car better and as it should be.

so what would it be then lee?
are they saying it needs new boost pipe and just saying needs different fitting etc?

how much are the pipes to replace ?
either main one or one that runs to intercooler ?

if the pipe collapses does the problem then occur - if so thats possibly the problem - u can try a chrome one or use a vxr setup i guess - vxr one has a hard pipe located between pipes from the intercooler

so obviously theres an upgraded vxr boost pipe you can get ?

    The pipe doesn't matter.
But did you use the original sensor, or the new sensor that came with the pipe?

sounds like one of them owns a vxr and noticed the different pipe in the engine bay lol and said thats your problem mate.

Im running standard intercooler on vxr turbo and iv had no problems mate.

You could pay that if they're 100% sure it will fix it otherwise they have to try and fix it again but tell them you ain't gonna pay!

ps- i have also had sports remap done and running full stainless exhaust system with vortex middle section, so power is increased substantially.
this vxr turbo aint running on standard "un-mapped" coupe.
maybe thats why your cars are fine?

So you changed the turbo and obviously disturbed/removed the boost pipe from the turbo outlet to the inlet side of the intercooler. have you removed any other boost pipework?

Hissing sound followed by power dopping off and then breaking down as you put it sounds like the pipe coming off or failing/splitting.
IIRC Courtenay supply an 'uprated' version (although it may only be 2 ply) of the turbo to IC pipe for approx. £70.
