    Sod's Law

    Hello,
this is my first posting and it isnt the greatest news. My Gsi has just come up to 4 years and was ready for cambelt/water pump change. Family member at Vauxhall dealer sorted out a price of £140.00 all in.
Took car down to south coast for holiday and whilst stuck in traffic heard a horrible noise (water pump knackered) lost 1 day while finding a garage to do the work at a cost of £250.00. Then to top it all off on last day of holiday found that the top pipe on the header tank had snapped and was blowing out steaming hot coolant ( three blistered fingers for me !). Then spent last day taking the car to have the new header tank fitted.
The only good news was that the car didnt miss a beat covering all 270 miles home.
So the moral of this story is dont let more than 4years lapse for the water pump swap and do proper checks before setting off on holiday!

That sucks, but I thought it was common knowledge to change the waterpump at the same time as the timing belt.

I got lucky with ours. Water pump gave up with 2 weeks of warranty left!!
Its now losing water but cant find where its coming from. Somewhere near the header tank though - is it a common problem?

I recently had a leak in this area and it turned out to be a pipe under the boost pipe/haeder tank which ran to the heater matrix in the bulkhead.

No probs, but have a good look as there are quite a few pipes down there!
Get the engine up to temp first to help locate the leak.

Had the water return pipe from the turbo snap off.....seems a common fault.
But easily resolved, was giving the impression the headgasket had gone at first. Allowing water to bubble in the pipes as such.
