    My petrol test complete

both tests where carried out using Vpower.

In the first test, i drove normally and occasionally pressed it a little (quite often), this returned 57.2 miles to £10

In the second test, completed today, I drove ultra catious, anticipating, and taking all of the advice given to me about better mpg by you lot and watching top gear audo fuel test on youtube.
Test result £10 of vpower returned 68.8 miles

can someone please explain why it only returned 68.8 miles to £10????

    i expected more

That seems pretty low, ill get between 70-80 miles to £10 of bp ultimate at 104p a litre, and i drive my car pretty hard a lot of the time, especially in 1st and 2nd i would rev it pretty high. I drive a 1998 1.8 16v.

When was the last time your car was serviced and also what engine is it?

It all depends on the type of driving also, when i got 70-80 miles to £10 i was doing a good bit of motorway driving and not so much town driving, im sure it would be a lot lower if i was driving about town but i dont keep an eye on my mileage anymore i just drive it till its empty and fill it up again.

its still only a Z16SE at the end of the day so I wouldnt expect miracles.

Also ur interpretation of "ultra cautious, anitcipating......" might have infact been over cautious for instance which could have had a negative effect on economy...

    just a suggestion

Oh and on another note - what do u expect to achieve from all of this?

Anyone IMO who drives in todays society does so regardless of what fuel costs and economy returned - if u think either/both are too much then time to look elsewhere (engine/car wise) or walk/cycle/use public transport.

I take it u never took my initial advice in ur last thread.....and get the damn thing serviced!!!!! pronto - piece of piss to do and cheap as chips

it doesn't matter how gentle you drive round town you will never get good MPG.

my old astra would do a little above 30MPG round town

    yet 50+ on the motorway

Its not all about driving gentley, this can sometimes decrease your MPG rather than increase. There are points etc. where and engine will work at its optimal and use less fuel, slowly nd gentley is not always the way.

For example in the Omega, 3.0 V6 Estate, beleive it or not, will get more MPG the heavier the load placed on it. For example when travelling down to Billing with 3 people in the car sitting at or around the 80-90mph mark the car wil arse a full tank of fuel (around 70litres or so), however when we went down this year 3 people and stacked to the max in the back (i.e. F28 gearbox, BBq;s exhausts etc etc. ) it arrived with just short of a 1/4 tank left. We have also noticed that the same thing happens when we are towing, it gets better fuel consumption with a car on the back than it does when running empty.
