    UK Window Tinting law???

looking to get my windows tinted to match up with my black wheels. I'm not sure on the law though, i'm pretty sure i am allowed what i want on the rear screen and rear passenger windows as this would act as a van.

However, i don't no what i'm allowed to have on the front side windows. I am prepared to have the front lighter than the back so that it is still legal but so that it doesn't look odd, but i don't want to go with no tint atall on the front as it will look stupid. (obviously i'm leaving the windscreen as it is)

Is it completely illegal to tint the front side windows or is there a limit i am allowed to have?

/\/\ 70% light transparency on front side & windscreen

BUT your car will have this rating as standard so any additional tint will deem it illegal.

Have a look at the data printed on each window and it'll be marked up as 70%

rear side windows and rear screen can be as dark as u wish

I'll just get the rears done then

I'll have to go quite light though as it will look rediculous with limo black on the back and clear as day on the front.

    Thanks for the info peeps!

what you should ask the police if they have had the windows done on the police car as most have a plastic film on them an this drops about 9% of the light well on city of London police car's and Met police cars
SupaGlass is what most have fitted on all side windows

Hmmm up north you start asking a police officer stuff like that you end up visiting the custody suite for a closer look at the facilities. As traffic officers have the right to prohibit your vehicle from being used on the road if they deam it dangerous ( poor visibility would suffice ) I wouldnt aggravate the situation if you had illegal tints.

maybe!!!! - but in real world situations - comedic smart arse comments in the faces of police officers aint realy the best option

stick with the law is the best advice

OR if you're really intent on having the front tinted then go for an ever so light (maybe a gradient) tint that isnt so much in your face.
